The Vampire Rapist
Wayne Boden AKA "The Vampire Rapist" was a Canadian serial killer and active rapist from 1969-71. Born c. 1948 till March 27th, 2006. He was known as "The Vampre Rapist" because his modus operandi was that he would bite the breasts of his victims.
Boden's first victim was Shirley Audette, October 3rd, 1969. Her body had been found at the rear of an apartment in downtown Montreal. She had been raped and strangled, and had bite marks on her breasts. The victim had no epithelial's or blood under her fingernails giving the impression that she did not struggle against the assailant. The second victim was Marielle Archambault. On Novmeber 23rd, 1969, co-workers reported her leaving with a young man named "Bill". The following morning she didn't show up for work and her employer went to her apartment to see if she was ill. Upon arrival he found her on the floor of her living room. A victim of both rape and strangulation with bite marks on her breasts. Detectives found a photograph at the scene of the crime in which her co-workers identified as the man "Bill", however they had no real-life suspects to connect the man in the photograph too. Two months later on January 16, 1970, Jean Wray was found dead in her apartment by her boyfriend. Her body was found on the sofa naked with the bite marks on her breasts. Although the evidence of violence was prominent there was no sign of struggle.
For the next year there were no attacks on the citizens of Montreal. Calgary however was not as fortunate. On May 18th 1971, Elizabeth Pourteous, was reported missing from work. Her apartment manager was contacted by her employer and inquired about her whereabouts. The apartment manager found her body on the floor of bedroom having been both strangled and raped with bite arks on her breasts. However there was evidence of a struggle this time as she was surrounded by wreckage, a broken hand-cuff link was also found near the body. Two colleagues of Pourteous testified that she been seen with a young man with a blue Mercedes on the night of her death. The car featured a bull-shaped decal, in one window advertising beef. Another friend informed the police that Pourteous had recently started dating someone named "Bill". Descriptions of this man matched those of the Vampire Rapist.
The following day on May 19th, a patrolman found the blue Mercedes with the bull-shaped decal parked near the murder scene. Within half an hour Wayne Boden was arrested as he was heading towards his car. He admitted that he had moved the previous year from Montreal, had seen Elizabeth Pourteous on the night of her death, as well as identifing the cufflink as his own.
Gordan Swann, a local orthodontiost, was asked to prove that the bite marks on Porteous' breasts and neck belong to Boden. Unfortunately at the time there was nothing on bite mark evidence in Canadian forensic literature. Writing to the FBI hoping for information, he recieved a reply from J. Edgar Hoover the director at the time, he was then directed to a man in England who had dealth with numerous cases dealing with forensic Odontology (Between 20-30 cases). After getting the necessary information, Swann was able to create a cast of Boden's teeth in which he then demonstrated 29 points of similiarity between the Boden's teeth and the bite marks on Elizabeth Pourteous. The evidence provided was enough for the jury at Boden's trial to find him guilty for the murder of Elizabeth Pourteous and a sentence for life imprisonment.
After his first conviction Boden was returned to Montreal to face trial for the three more related murders. He was also accused in the Death of Norma Vaillaincourt who had died on July 23, 1968, who had been found dead in her apartment in Montreal. She had been raped, strangled, and had bite marks on her breasts; however Boden refused any involvment with her death.
Boden began serving his sentence on February 16th, 1972, in the Kingston Penitentiary, later on he was serving at the Laval prison. Then in 1977 American Express granted him a credit card, which he was able to use to escape while out on a day pass from the Laval prison. He was recaptured 36 hours later in a restaurant Mount Royal Hotel in downtown Montreal.
